Recording live TV programmes

You can record live TV on all BetterTV devices (NetBox HD, NetBox 4K, and SoundBox HD) using a formatted USB stick.

Recording options:

  • Record live Freeview channels as you watch

  • Schedule future recordings

  • Set up series recordings

Your formatted USB stick needs to be inserted and initialised before you can start recording. Watch this video to learn more about recording and watching your recorded programmes.

Schedule Recordings

You'll need a formatted USB stick inserted into your BetterTV device before you can record.

Recording while watching:

  1. Press 'OK' on your remote while watching a programme and select 'Record'

  2. Choose 'This episode' or 'Series' recording

  3. Your recording will appear in 'Last Recorded Programmes' when complete

Scheduling from the TV guide:

  1. Press the 'TV Guide' button on your remote

  2. Find the programme you want to record, press 'OK' and select 'Record'
    ​

  3. Choose 'Episode' or 'Series' recording
    ​

  4. Recording will start automatically when the programme begins and recorded episodes will appear in the recording section of your TV.

Important: For scheduled recordings and series recordings, you cannot record while watching live TV channels from Freeview.

Watch programmes and record simultaneously


You can watch one live channel while recording another, but only if both channels use the same broadcast signal (Mux):

  • If channels share the same Mux, you can watch and record different programmes

  • If they use different Mux signals, you'll see a notification with options to either stop recording or choose a different channel

  • Channels 830+ can always be accessed without affecting recordings

  • Cancel Selected: Stops your recording so you can watch the new channel

  • Return: Takes you back to choose a channel that works with your recording

Set programme reminders


You can set a reminder to appear on your TV screen for a live programme that will take place within the next 7 days.

Setting a reminder:

  1. Press the 'Guide' button on your remote
    ​

  2. Find the programme you want a reminder, select it and choose 'Reminder' from the displayed options

  3. Your reminder is now set

When the programme starts a full-screen reminder appears 2 minutes before the programme begins with options to view the channel, snooze reminder or cancel the reminder
