When streaming apps like Netflix, iPlayer, or Amazon Prime aren't working as expected, there are several quick fixes you can try.


Streaming apps not working properly

Check your internet connection

Test other apps: Try opening a different streaming app to see if the problem affects all apps or just one specific service.

Check your connection: Make sure your BetterTV device is connected to the internet via WiFi or ethernet cable. You can verify this in Settings > Help & Support > Diagnostics.


WiFi troubleshooting: If you're using WiFi, make sure your router is close enough to your device and working properly. Slow or unstable internet often causes buffering issues.

Simple reboot often fixes app issues: Unplug your BetterTV device for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and wait for it to fully restart.

Test the app again once your device has completely loaded.


Try adjusting video quality

Sometimes apps work better with different video resolution settings.

Change HDMI resolution:

  1. Go to Settings > Sound & Picture

    Sound___Picture.png

  2. Select HDMI Resolution

    Sound___Picture_-_HDMI_Resolution.png

  3. Try 1920x1080 p60 or 1280x720 p60

  4. Test the app again

Restarting your BetterTV device

A simple restart can fix many common issues with your BetterTV device and takes just a couple of minutes.

When to restart your device

  • Apps not loading properly. Streaming services freezing or not opening.

  • Remote control issues. Device not responding to your remote.

  • General performance problems. Slow navigation or unusual behaviour.

How to restart

  • Unplug the power cable from the back of your device and wait for one full minute.

  • Plug the power cable back in and wait for your device to completely start up before using it.

  • Look for the blue LED light to confirm your device has fully restarted.

Alternative restart method

You can also turn off the power at the wall socket, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on.

What happens during restart

Your device will go through its normal startup sequence. Any temporary software glitches should be cleared, and all services should load fresh.

Your settings and recordings are safe - restarting doesn't delete any of your personal data or preferences.


Factory reset your device

A factory reset returns your BetterTV device to its original out-of-the-box condition. This should only be used when other troubleshooting hasn't worked.

Warning

You will lose everything: All recordings, favourite channels, app logins, and your PIN will be deleted permanently.

Try other solutions first like restarting your device or contacting support for help.

How to factory reset

Method 1 - Settings menu:

  1. Go to Settings on your device

  2. Select General > Advanced (or Help & Support > Advanced on NetBox 4K)

  3. Enter your 4-digit PIN

  4. Select Reset settings

Method 2 - Physical button: Quickly press the button on the side of your device 5 times in succession.

After the reset

Your device will restart and guide you through the initial setup process, just like when you first got it.

You'll need to: Set up your WiFi connection, sign in to streaming apps, and configure your preferences again.
