Optimising Your BetterWiFi Performance

Get the most from your mesh network

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Once your BetterWiFi is set up, these tips will help you maximise its performance.

Perfect Placement Strategy

The halfway rule: Place mesh nodes roughly halfway between your router and areas with poor coverage. This creates the strongest bridge for your WiFi signal.

Height matters: Position mesh nodes at mid-height (on a shelf or table) rather than on the floor or very high up.

Avoid obstacles: Keep mesh nodes away from:

  • Metal objects (filing cabinets, appliances)

  • Electronics that emit signals (microwaves, baby monitors)

  • Thick walls or corners

  • Enclosed spaces (inside cabinets)

Environmental Factors

WiFi interference comes from:

  • Other WiFi networks (especially in apartments)

  • Bluetooth devices

  • Microwave ovens when in use

  • Thick walls and floors

  • Large metal objects

Minimize interference by:

  • Keeping mesh nodes in open areas

  • Using the 5GHz network when possible (less crowded)

  • Positioning nodes away from other electronics

Managing Connected Devices

Too many devices? Each mesh node can handle dozens of devices, but performance decreases with heavy usage.

Prioritise bandwidth by:

  • Using wired connections for stationary devices (smart TVs, gaming consoles)

  • Limiting simultaneous high-bandwidth activities (multiple 4K streams)

  • Considering device placement (closer to mesh nodes = better performance)

When to Add More Mesh Nodes

Consider additional mesh nodes if you have:

  • A very large home (4+ bedrooms, multiple floors)

  • Outdoor areas requiring coverage (garden, patio)

  • Persistent weak spots after optimization

  • Many connected devices with high bandwidth needs

Monitoring Your Network

Using the Icotera app (for Icotera systems):

  • Download from your app store and log in with your brsk credentials

  • Check "Device Map" to see connection quality

  • Look for red or yellow indicators showing weak connections

  • Use signal strength numbers to optimise placement

For WiFi 7 Brsk Boosters: Use the Brsk Hub dashboard (http://192.168.1.1):

  • Check WiFi Mesh > Overview for signal quality

  • Monitor device distribution across boosters

  • Review band usage (2.4GHz, 5GHz, 6GHz)

  • Look for devices using multi-link operation

Maintenance Tips

Monthly checks:

  • Test WiFi speed in different rooms

  • Verify all mesh nodes show good signal strength

  • Restart your router if speeds seem consistently slower

When to contact support:

  • Persistent red lights after repositioning

  • Sudden speed drops across your entire network

  • Mesh nodes that won't stay connected after reset
