Yes! You certainly can use your own router with brsk. All we ask is that you keep the brsk-supplied router somewhere safe as our support teams may ask you to put the brsk router back in place to help them troubleshoot any issues you may be having.

To use your own router with brsk, simply unplug the brsk-supplied router from the fibre box (ONT) on your wall and plug your own router in. Then refer to your router's manual on how to continue the setup.

Not all routers will be compatible with brsk, however. For your router to be compatible, it will need the following:

  • A gigabit ethernet WAN port. A fast ethernet WAN port will work, however, this will limit your speeds to less than 100Mbps.

  • DHCP client on the WAN port. This allows your device to obtain its IP address information.

  • DHCPv6 PD and SLAAC support. These aren't strictly necessary to get online but are needed to get IPv6 working.

When first connecting your router to the brsk network, you may need to wait up to 10 minutes before your router comes online due to our network having a 10-minute DHCP lease time.

Your previous ISP router may not work with brsk because some ISPs use different technology to deliver their services, such as DSL and Cable.
