Slow Internet Speed

Fix slow speeds or sudden speed drops quickly with these simple steps for any Brsk router.

Updated over 3 months ago

If your internet feels slower than usual, follow these steps to help identify the issue and possibly fix it yourself.

  1. Restart your devices: Turn off both your Brsk router and the white Line Box (ONT) mounted on the wall. Wait for 60 seconds. Then, turn them both back on and wait a few minutes for the lights to settle.

  2. Check all cables: Make sure the fibre cable from outside is securely connected to your Line Box. Also check that the Ethernet cable between your Line Box and router is firmly connected at both ends.

  3. Run a proper speed test: Use the Speedtest.net App (not your browser) for accurate results. Download the app at speedtest.net/apps for your device, then open it and click 'GO' to test.

    Essential Testing Tips

Use a wired connection - Connect your device directly to the router with an Ethernet cable. WiFi tests aren't reliable for troubleshooting.

Use a laptop or desktop - Avoid gaming consoles or mobile devices for testing as they may not show your full speed capability.

Plug in your laptop - Make sure it's charging and not in battery saver mode, which can limit performance.

Test multiple devices - If possible, test on more than one wired device to see if the issue affects everything or just one device.

    What Your Results Mean

If only WiFi is slow: This usually indicates coverage problems in your home. Watch this video about optimising your WiFi signal at home.

If one website is slow: The issue is likely with that specific website, not your broadband connection.

If all devices are affected: This suggests a broader connection issue that we can help resolve. Contact us if all your devices are experiencing slow speeds.
