Remote Control & Voice Command Issues

Fix remote control issues

Updated this week

If your remote stops responding, it's usually a simple battery or connection issue that's easy to fix.

Try these quick fixes

Replace with fresh batteries

  • Consider also removing and reinserting batteries. Sometimes the battery contacts just need to be refreshed.

Try the mobile app remote

  • Download the BetterTV mobile app which includes a virtual remote control. Learn how to access BetterTV mobile app remote control.

  • Test device responsiveness. If the mobile app remote works but your physical remote doesn't, you know the problem is definitely with the remote control.

Restart your device

  • Unplug the power cable from your device and plug it back in after 30 seconds. You can also turn off the power at the wall socket and turn it back on.

  • Give your device a minute or two to fully restart before testing the remote again.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, there might be a hardware problem with either your remote or device. Contact our support team through live chat for further assistance.

Alexa voice commands not working

If Alexa isn't responding to your BetterTV commands, there are several things to check.

Check if Alexa is paired: Open your Amazon Alexa app and look in the Enabled Skills section. You should see BetterTV listed there.

Re-pair if needed: If BetterTV isn't showing as an enabled skill, you'll need to set up the connection again.

Make sure Alexa isn't muted: Look for a red light or mute indicator on your Alexa device. Press the mute button to unmute if needed.

Test with other commands: Try asking Alexa about the weather or time to make sure the device itself is working properly.

Watch for the blue ring: When you give a voice command, you should see a blue ring appear in the top-left corner of your TV screen. This shows that Alexa heard you and is processing the command.

No blue ring means no connection: If you don't see this indicator, the devices aren't communicating properly.

Be specific with your requests: Say "Alexa, change channel to BBC One" rather than just "change channel." Clear, specific commands work better.

Check the command list. Make sure you're using supported voice commands. Not all TV functions can be controlled through Alexa.

Disconnecting Alexa from BetterTV

To unpair your Alexa from your Better TV device, simply disable the skill on the Amazon Alexa app from your mobile. To pair your Alexa to your Better TV device again, enable the skill and follow the pairing procedure..
