This article provides insight into the process of rolling out full fibre in your area.

Bringing full fibre to your area is a large infrastructural undertaking with several phases.

The construction project takes place in 6 stages:

  • Stage 1: Clearing

  • Stage 2: Construction

  • Stage 3: Cabling

  • Stage 4: Splicing

  • Stage 5: Testing

  • Stage 6: Go Live!

Read on to find out a little bit about what each stage entails, you might even learn something new πŸ“š

Stage 1: Clearing

Brsk taps into third party infrastructure where possible and uses existing ducts and manholes to limit the disruption to your neighbourhood. This phase of the project requires that we check that all of the ducts and manholes in your area are clear and ready for use. If they're not, we need to clean them up and make sure they're fit to house brsk's world-class infrastructure.

Stage 2: Construction

Sometimes existing infrastructure doesn't cover your whole neighbourhood, so we have to build some of our own. During Phase 2 of the project, we will be erecting new poles, trenching where necessary, installing manholes, street cabinets and all the new physical infrastructure required to bring world-class fibre to your doorstep. Don't worry, we promise to clean up after ourselves and make sure your suburb looks as good as new at the end of the project.

Stage 3: Cabling

Now that the foundations for the network have been laid, we can start rolling out the actual fibre cables. The cables will be run through the ducts (or pipes) and strung from pole to pole; as well as installed in manholes and street cabinets.

Stage 4: Splicing

Splicing is a fancy fibre term for "connecting." It's kind of like welding, but for very delicate fine glass fibre strands. Now that we have built the foundations of the infrastructure in your area, and have installed cables all over the place, we need to connect them to each other in manholes, on poles, in street cabinets, and ultimately make sure the fibre gets connected all the way back to a data exchange in London, which will ultimately connect you to the world!

Stage 5: Testing

Now that we have rolled out a full fibre network in your area, we need to perform quality checks on the network and test the fibre to ensure it is delivering at the world-class levels we expect. Once testing is complete, your area will officially go live!

Stage 6: Go Live!

Once the project is complete, your area will be declared live and we will start to schedule in-home installations. Find out more about the in-home installation process here.
