What is Geolocation?

Geolocation is the identification of the physical location of a device utilising an IP address. This technology aids websites and applications in delivering content tailored to a specific region, such as local streaming services.

Understanding Geolocation Accuracy

Ensuring the accuracy of geolocation on our IP address ranges is paramount for us. We always do our best to ensure our address ranges are kept accurate, but it's essential to understand that some applications derive their geolocation data from third-party geolocation providers, which can sometimes lead to inconsistencies.

Troubleshooting Geolocation Issues

If you find yourself running into a geolocation issue, please consider the following steps:

  • Confirm you are not connected to a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

  • Clear your device's cache or opt for using incognito/private browsing mode.

  • Test the application on an alternative device.

  • Change your Domain Name System (DNS) server settings e.g. to the Google DNS server.

  • To help us troubleshoot this issue, change your internet connection e.g. switch to mobile data if you are on Wi-Fi. This helps us to determine if the application is seeing issues just on our broadband or extends to multiple providers.

If the issue persists after these steps, it's also a good idea to reach out to the support team of the specific application you're using. They might be aware of a geolocation issue (or know how to resolve it) and can help get your application up and running.

If the issue continues to persist, reach out out our dedicated support team at 02039 255 299 or via support@brsk.co.uk for further assistance. Please let us know of the specific applications that are experiencing issues with. It would also be helpful to take a picture or screenshot of any errors shown!
