Choosing the Right Speed

Updated this week

Choosing the right internet speed depends on how many people live in your home and what you use the internet for. We offer four BetterNet broadband speeds: 150Mbps, 500Mbps, 1000Mbps (1Gbps), and 2000Mbps (2Gbps).

Our speed recommendations

  • 150Mbps - Perfect for 1-2 person household. Great for everyday browsing, streaming, and video calls

  • 500Mbps - Ideal for households with 3-4 people. Handles multiple devices streaming and working simultaneously

  • 1000Mbps (1Gbps) - Best for larger households (5+ people) or heavy internet users. Perfect for gaming, 4K streaming, and multiple people working from home

  • 2000Mbps (2Gbps) - For tech enthusiasts who want the latest technology. The ultimate speed for future-proofing your home.

What to expect using a wired connection (Ethernet cable)

You can expect to achieve around:

  • 1800Mbps on a 2Gbps connection

  • 900Mbps on a 1Gbps connection

  • 500Mbps on a 500Mbps connection

  • 150Mbps on a 150Mbps connection

Keep in mind: Wi-Fi speeds are typically 20% slower than wired connections and decrease the further you are from your router. Your device's capabilities also affect your experience - think of it like having a powerful engine in an older car; the car can only go as fast as its components allow.
