If you are using the black Technicolor router that brsk installed, please take a look at this article.

Step 1: Pair your BetterWiFi mesh node to your Icotera Wi-Fi Router

Please follow the steps below to connect your brsk mesh devices:

  • Put the mesh node next to the Icotera i4850 router and connect them to each other using an Ethernet cable, then turn the mesh node on.
This will trigger the pairing process.

  • If the LED light is flashing white this means the mesh node is booting up.

  • If the LED light is flashing yellow this means it is trying to obtain an IP address (if it gets stuck here the cable could be faulty or not plugged in correctly, this should only take 1-2 seconds when functioning correctly).

  • Once the LED light goes solid blue the mesh node has paired with the router.

Pairing Successful

  • This process should be completed in as little as 2 minutes but may take up to 3-4 minutes.

If the mesh node doesn’t pair, or you see a white, yellow or red light on the LED display, this means that the mesh node is updating its firmware. Once updated, the mesh nodes will be ready for pairing.

Step 2: Put BetterWiFi in the best position

Once the mesh node is successfully paired with the router it can be turned off and moved to its permanent location. Placing a mesh node halfway between the router and where poor coverage is experienced is a simple but effective way of improving coverage.

  • Turn the mesh node on in your selected location and wait for a solid white LED light to display. If the LED display is off, press the WiFi button once and it should go solid white.

  • Double-press the WiFi button on the side of the mesh node to check the signal strength

Double pressing the WiFi button prompts the LED display to give an indication of how strong the signal is back to the paired router.

Signal Strength LED Colours:

  • Green is ideal.

  • Blue would be acceptable if you are constrained around where you can place the mesh node (meaning you have to put it closer to the router than you otherwise would).

  • Yellow may be acceptable if you want to get coverage in a hard-to-reach area, and are happy to prioritise coverage over pure performance in that area.

Step 3: Test

Once you have placed the mesh node in a suitable location, go to where you have coverage problems and try to access the internet using your mobile phone or laptop to check that you are receiving coverage in that location.
