Channels keep buffering, what should I do?

Updated this week

Buffering and a drop in picture quality are frustrating, but they can almost always be solved by checking your internet connection. Since all channels are delivered over the internet, a fast and stable connection is essential for a smooth viewing experience.

Follow these steps to diagnose and fix the problem.

1. Restart your Router and Modem

This is the most common fix for most internet issues. By turning your router and modem off and on again, you can clear any temporary glitches and refresh your network connection.

  • Unplug the power cables from both your router and your modem.

  • Wait for 30 seconds.

  • Plug your modem back in first, and wait for all the lights to turn on and become stable.

  • Plug your router back in and wait for it to fully connect.

2. Check your Internet Speed

A slow internet speed is the most likely cause of buffering.Freely requires a minimum 10Mbps download speed for reliable streaming.

  • To check your speed, use another device like a mobile phone or laptop.

  • Go to a website such as speedtest.net or fast.com and run a test.

  • If your speed is below the recommended minimum, contact your internet service provider.

3. Reduce Network Congestion

Your internet bandwidth is shared among all the devices in your home. If a lot of them are in use at the same time, it can slow down your PLEIO puck's connection.

  • Stop other activities that use a lot of bandwidth, such as downloading large files, online gaming, or streaming on other TVs or computers.

  • Check that no other devices are running in the background and using up bandwidth.

4. Restart your PLEIO puck

Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve an issue. A power cycle can clear any temporary software problems without affecting your settings.

  • Unplug the power cable from the back of your PLEIO puck.

  • Wait for 30 seconds.

  • Plug the power cable back in. The puck will restart automatically.
